Noise Problems with NE/2-32 in Select IBM Micro Channel Servers
In IBM Model 95 and some Model 80 A21 and A31 machines, an NE/2-32 can lose
its on-board POS configuration information, causing the adapter to stop
functioning. This problem is manifested by the NetWare 386 v3.10 revision
A console message "Possible cable disconnect detected on NE/2-23," when
running thin Ethernet. When running thick ethernet it is not likely that
this error will appear; however, stations will lose their connections or will
not be allowed to connect to the server. This problem may also occur at
startup, in which case the LAN driver will not initialize.
The problem is caused by noise from the adapter and from the machine. This
problem has been corrected in revision F of the NE/2-32.
When encountering these or related problems with an NE/2-32 in an IBM Model
95 or Model 80, an upgrade to an NE/2-32 revision F is available through
Federal Technologies RMA Department at (800)-366-4526.
